Catching Up

Friday, May 22, 2015

Hello again! I took a bit of time away from the blog there - not intentionally, more just I didn't have very much to blog about. But I thought I'd pop in today and catch up with you all.

At the end of March I had a lovely week away with my family in Spain. We were actually celebrating my parents 50th wedding anniversary (wow!), but it was also a little bit of a baby-moon for my husband and I, as we knew it would be our last holiday before the new arrival. I packed a few me-made items to wear while away and was pleased to discover that my nautical jersey dress fit over my bump and was really comfy to wear (see photo above for proof!). I also LIVED in my double gauze washi dress. It was so easy to slip on over my bikini and the double gauze was gorgeously lightweight and breathable during hot days. The washi dress was definitely my saviour throughout most of my pregnancy actually, so I was lucky to have quite a few to choose from.

I'm finally on my maternity leave now, and so thankful of that. The last few weeks in work have been pretty hard going. Not that I have a very physically taxing job - I literally sit at a desk all day long. But it's surprising how that can really take it out of you when your in your third trimester! Thankfully, my pregnancy so far has been relatively trouble-free, bar the odd bout of heartburn and occasional swollen feet. What I would say is that I have been pretty tired, and just not motivated to sew as much as I would have liked to or anticipated. So that's one of the reasons for the radio silence, no new projects to share!

Saying that, you may have spotted a bit of my sewing on my instagram feed a few weeks back. I was doing a MAJOR sort-out of old clothes (a touch of nesting perhaps?!) and decided to turn a few of my old t-shirts into cute little baby leggings! After a bit of searching I decided to use Rae's free baby leggings pattern and whipped these up in a couple of evenings. They are SO CUTE! I can hardly believe that there will be a little person that will actually FIT into these very soon. I'll try and remember to get some photos of the wee guy/girl modelling them to share with you all and let you know what I think of the pattern in use. In terms of sewing them up, these are really easy and super satisfying. I was tempted to turn ALL of my t-shirts into baby leggings...

As for other sewing, no finished projects, but I thought I'd show you a sneak-peek at the baby quilt I'm working on. I'm making the pattern up as I go along, based on a quilt I saw on Pinterest, so I hope it turns out OK! I still have a fair bit to do, but hopefully the 'hard' part is done and the rest should come together quickly enough. I have quite a few little projects (all baby related of course!) that I'd like to get done before the baby arrives and had hoped that my two-ish weeks maternity leave before due date would give me time, but I can hardly believe that one week of that has already gone by and I haven't done any sewing!

Well actually, I do have one finished project to share with you, but that will be revealed on Tuesday next week - so I hope you will stop by then to check it out!

Until then, hope you all have a fab weekend - any sewing plans?

  1. Yay, you almost there! A desk job can really take a lot out of you - that's what I was doing with my first pregnancy and all I wanted to do when I got home was lay in bed. I'm starting to get into that third trimester-super-tired-all-the-time phase now too ;)

Your baby projects are so cute. I still have never sewn anything for my little ones, but would love to hear your thoughts on those legging patterns once in use! I may have to make a few.

Good luck with your quilt - that's an ambitious project to take on so close to your due date!

  2. Those wee legging are so cute! What a great idea for old t-shirts. Good luck with your quilt, hopefully you'll get a good bit of it done before the baby arrives. Lynne

  3. Eeep! Little leggings! So excited for you and your upcoming arrival! It really is so much fun :) Good luck with everything. Will be thinking about you!

  4. Hi Annabelle, thanks for your comment. Good to hear that I'm not the only one who got tired just sitting at a desk at the end of the pregnancy!
Hope all is going well with your second pregnancy. I'll definitely let you know about the leggings. If they are a good fit/use they are a great project to whip up for instant gratification - love those kinds of projects, don't you?!
And thanks for the luck for the quilt - I need it! lol. I'm going to tackle a bit of it today. But I'm not beating myself up about it, if I don't finish it before the baby arrives, that's ok!

  5. Thanks Lynne - I haven't had a moments notice since my maternity leave started but today I actually don't have anything planned so I'm going to tackle the quilt and hopefully get a good bit done!!

  6. They are so cute, aren't they Liza Jane?!!! Thanks for the well wishes - it's just a waiting game now...any day....!!!!
